Let’s start at the beginning of my journey, 3 years back. When my son was 6 months old, I joined a gym and started working out 5 days a week. My workouts were mainly cardio, aerobics classes. I started meeting and talking to people at the gym and little by little I started taking some classes that involved light weight training. Soon enough I realized that you see more results with weight training vs doing just cardio. I was intrigued. I started reading about the weight training and proper nutrition. I changed the way I train and eat. Results were there.
One of the first things that I added to my diet was whey protein shakes. I tried just about any brand you ever heard of. GNC Gold standard, Lean Body by Jamie Easton, Pure Protein, Muscle Milk and many others. You name it, I probably tried it. While these were okay as far as getting enough protein in my diet, nutritionally they didn’t add much to my well being. And taste wise, unless you add ton of peanut butter to it, doesn’t taste well. Even then, I used to dread the after taste. My nutritionist was never happy about me taking any of the above mentioned shakes. She used to refer to them as “gym garbage”. This made me think and rethink my choices and finally I decided to do research and find the shake that is as clean as it can possibly be. Shake that contains nutrients that come from cleanest, most natural sources. Not processed and without any ingredients that you cant even pronounce. This is when I came across BeachBody and Shakeology.
I knew about BeachBody workout videos and the website for a while now. You probably heard about P90X and Insanity (2 most talked about). And if you tried them you know they work. Well, I used to do them too and I know how great they are. So when I found out that the founder of BeachBody developed Shakeology to go along with the workouts I decided to give it a try. The nutritional label checked out: ton of superfoods, good amount of whey protein, antioxidants, fibers and probiotics. Even my nutritionist could not find anything wrong with it. This gave me a green light and I had my first cup. Boy was I thrilled! Drinking something that tastes so good and knowing how nutritious it is, really gave me this boost of refreshed energy and feeling so good about myself. Soon after, I decided that this is something that I would love to be part of and something that I would like to introduce to all my friends and family. More on this in one of my next blogs.
